Persian Tar string Instrument

The Persian Tar is a string instrument that is played with a Mezrab. Persian Tar was invented in the 18th century and has since become one of the most important musical instruments in Iran, particularly in Persian classical music, and the favoured instrument for radifs. In the past, Persian Tar had five strings. Gholam Hossein Darvish or Darvish Khan added the sixth string that is still used. The bowl of Persian Tar, consists of two parts, large and small and is made of old mulberry wood stump, and the older the wood, the better the sound will be. Tar is one of the main string instruments of Iranian music.
